in Ireland!

Ok, this will be really brief cuz I only have ten minutes left on my internet. I got to Dublin last night after a looong trip involving three buses and a ferry and lots of walking and lots of waiting.

I LOVED central Wales. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control (ie, buses) I wasn't able to visit Aberystwyth but I stayed in a small town nearby Machylleth and the Centre for Alternative Technology, which I visited on Rose's recommendation and it was the coolest thing ever. I visited a little craft center, spent lots of time hiking in sparsely populated Welsh hillsides, and walked around the cute Machynlleth and ate at their whole foods restaurant (this part is like the Berkeley of Wales, I gather. Or really like... Arcata). Anyway, I loved it, my hostel was in an old schoolhouse and at night I read The Prophet by the fireplace... pretty much perfect.

My cold is still here, but much better than before, although I think I pissed off my bunkmates by coughing incessantly in the middle of the night. Hmm. Maybe time for another pharmacy trip.

Alright! Of to breakfast, and then to explore Dublin (Guiness Brewery!). When I left the ferry last night, my bus was playing Sinead on the radio, and we passed a line of about 50 tanker trckes marked Guiness. I knew I'd come to the right place.

Much love to everybody! Martha, when you buy my internet I'll post you some pictures, mmkay??

  1. I'm glad to see you post again! (You can ignore my email. ;) Man, I'd love to see the Guinness factory. You know, in the Patrick O'Brian books (from which the movie 'Master & Commander' came), the 19th century doctor Stephen Maturin recommends that his friend's wife drink a glass of porter every night for her health. Maybe a good dark beer would do you good? :D Have fun in Ireland!
